River House
Tightly situated between a 2 lane highway and a river, this 2 story 4,000 s.f. home addressed several challenging and influential site features. Noise reduction and privacy from the road are accomplished with thick concrete and glass block walls along the highway. A curving steel gate guides visitors into a sculpted auto court extension of the house. The riverside is angled upstream for views as the sloped shed roof rises up to the opposing hillside inviting light and sounds of the flowing water to fill the house. The linear nature of the home takes advantage of the long lot and weaves between existing fir trees creating dramatic indoor/outdoor spaces.
